December 16th - Pluto's Christmas Tree

This week has wiped me out so for today's review I wanted something short and sweet and Pluto's Christmas Tree (1952) definitely worked on both parts. The film has Mickey Mouse and Pluto bring home their Christmas tree only for Pluto to realise Chip and Dale are hid away inside, starting a war of attrition between the dog and the two chipmunks. The running time means that there is very little negative to say about it. It does try to cram in a general message of ‘it’s Christmas so let’s love each other’ which doesn’t hold much weight because of the lack of time devoted to it, but that is nit-picking to the highest degree. The film works almost like a Tom and Jerry episode, being mostly focused on humorous slapstick and it works. The animation is the old school Disney style I like and works really well with the slapstick of the film, and the music and sound design adds a lot and may be the sound out aspect of the short. There isn’t much else to say, it is just a fun, sweet short that is in the spirit of the season and is worth a watch of you have Disney+ and 6 minutes to spare.
